And I sure as hell didn’t plan to miss her when she walked out of my front door.

Now, if I want to keep her, I have to straighten myself out and earn her. I can’t screw this up.

Because if I do, I’ll lose more than just Lia.

I’ll lose my life.

Rafe by Jo Raven book tour

RAFE - COVER NEW_smaller

SYNOPSIS

His name is Rafaele Vestri, Rafe to his friends. He’s tall, strong, handsome. Distant. He often comes to the coffee shop where I work, but we don’t talk much. He looks at me, though. Stares at me, his gaze heated, and I can’t help but stare back. I want him, I won’t deny it. I’ve never seen anyone that beautiful, anyone that powerful, in my life. But he’s growing more withdrawn by the day. Something’s up, and he won’t tell. I know about his past—the murder of his family when he was fifteen. I can imagine how much it must have cost him. So much violence contained in that strong body, waiting to be unleashed. What is he seeking? What is he training so hard for? Why is he looking at me like he’s dying to touch me, but won’t dare? Even as I try to stop thinking about him, get interested in other boys, I realize I can’t. I’m caught, body and soul, just like that. And I tell myself, Megan, girl… What have you gotten yourself into this time? Standalone novel. No cliffhanger. *Warning: this book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature readers only. Not intended for young readers.*

EXCERPT

I’m staring at Rafe’s hand. Big, strong, callused. A scar runs from his thumb to the index finger. He’s looking at me, waiting. So I lift my hand, place it in his. It fits on his palm, smaller, darker, thinner. He seems as entranced by the contrast as I am. His fingers curl, closing around mine. His lips part, but no sound comes from his mouth, and his gaze remains fixed on our entwined hands, pale lashes hiding the gold of his eyes. Now I’m the one caught, transfixed. His mouth looks soft, vulnerable, at odds with his strong, angular features and the broad set of his shoulders. The need to touch his face is overwhelming, and I step closer, so close I can sense his scent. Not a cologne, but the deep scent of his skin, like musk and warm metal. I can see the rise and fall of his chest underneath the black Deathmoth T-shirt he’s wearing under his open jacket, see the outline of his strong pecs. We’re standing so close our breaths mingle, and our bodies touch in places as we shift, feathery brushes that send fire across my skin, into my belly, making me ache. He places his hands on my waist and I grip his thick, sinewy forearms. My stomach drops as if I’m standing at the edge of a precipice, on the edge of a moment that can change everything. What’s happening? It’s as if in the hollow darkness, the barrier between us is crumbling, the wall he’s set between himself and the world is falling. His hands tighten on my hipbones and his lashes lift, his gaze moving to my mouth. His breathing is ragged. He tugs me against him, his fingertips digging painfully into my flesh, his arms flexing with barely controlled strength. His arousal presses into my stomach, hot and thick, caught sideways in his jeans. My mind fills up with static. Rafe wants me. There’s the solid proof of his desire. The heated gaze I’ve felt so often on me is translated into a physical reaction, and it makes me feel so hot I might burst into flames. He’s so handsome, I can’t help myself. I want to stroke his square jaw, drag my fingertips over the golden stubble on his cheeks, kiss those damnable dimples.

Review: Letting Ana Go by Anonymous

Letting Ana Go by Anonymous

Link to buy Letting Ana Go

Story Rating: 4 out of 5

Blurb:

She was a good girl from a good family, with everything she could want or need. But below the surface, she felt like she could never be good enough. Like she could never live up to the expectations that surrounded her. Like she couldn’t do anything to make a change.

But there was one thing she could control completely: how much she ate. The less she ate, the better—stronger—she felt.

Review:

First off, this isn't a technically a New Adult book, but it was available to review so I took it. I am familiar with Go Ask Alice and Jay's Journal which I read easily over thirty years ago. So, going in a had an idea that this was not going to have a happily ever after ending.

Ana is a runner and constantly thinking about her weight. She keeps a food journal for her coach to track her calories. One of her best friends is a ballerina who is also obsessed with her weight and teaches Ana how to be even more compulsive by doing certain exercises and reducing her calorie intake even more.

During the story he father leaves her mother for a much thinner woman but not before making her mom feel horrible about her being a little overweight. It seems an obsession with food and looks surrounds Ana everywhere she looks. Throw in a hot boyfriend she wants to impress by being perfect and super skinny and this is a perfect recipe for disaster.

While reading this you know it's not going to end well and you really feel for Ana. Even though her mom tries to help her it's not ideal due to crappy insurance issues and peer pressure. The writing was solid and reminded me a lot of the other Anonymous books I've read. I do think this can be described as a somewhat realistic depiction of anorexia. It should be noted that this book is chock full of triggers so if you suffer(ed) from anorexia you might want to use caution when reading this.

Review: The Easter Bunny and the Whore of Babylon by Justin Conley

The Easter Bunny and the Whore of Babylon by Justin Conley

Link to buy The Easter Bunny and the Whore of Babylon (Dark Garden of Eden Book 1)

Story Rating: 2 out of 5

Blurb:

During the rise of the Eden Empire and their exploitation of galaxy systems to promote an universal Christianity, several worlds end up absorb into its scope of influence. Some accepted the Universal Word of God without conflict. Other resisted at the hard-boiled, Christian-induced Eden Empire. Enter Ostara, a land that accepted the new religion, ruled by wealthy and horny bi-pedal rabbits known as Easters. Not only did they accept it, they embraced it passionately to the point that Ostara became another Eden. However, not all accepted it with open arms and conflict within the planet took place.

Enter the result: the Rabbit Fire Wars.

The plan was simple: those that accepted Easter Christianity would enjoy the privileges accompanied with them to include money, power, and best of all, sex, which made the Easters infamous. Those that resisted will feel the full force of the Easters with backing from the Eden Empire.

This opens the world of "The Easter Bunny and the Whore of Babylon," an erotic, violent, thought-provoking dark satire that looks at those thoughts we have but never share with anyone; about an institution that continues to show flaws, and a battle of the sexes that turns to all-out war.

Review:

This was a really unusual book that would flip flop from discussing religion and war then change to a story about whores living during these times. The history of the religion and war was difficult to follow and there were names of places and people that made it too confusing.

The sex was hot and pretty graphic. The odd thing about these sections were the characters were animals but acted and spoke like people. Even though these sections were easier to understand that the others, they were still confusing to me.

This whole thing was a trippy experience that left me wondering what it was I actually read because the entire thing is confusing from start to finish.

Review: Buzz Bets Badly But Begets Bliss by Etienne

Buzz Bets Badly But Begets Bliss by Etienne

Link to buy Buzz Bets Badly, But Begets Bliss: An Avondale Story

Story Rating: 2 out of 5

Blurb:

Adam Yancey is about to graduate from college, with a degree in music at the age of eighteen. He’s highly intelligent, totally goal-oriented, and anxious to begin working on a Master’s and then a Doctoral degree, so he can pursue a career as a concert organist.

But what he really dreams of is having a loving relationship with another man—a relationship like his father and his father’s partner have. Unfortunately, Adam has a secret. One he feels certain will prevent him from ever having such a relationship.

Buzz Patterson is a jock and a track star, and all he wants out of life is to get laid—as often as possible. Then one day, his buddies goad him into betting that he can find out if Adam’s long fingers fulfill the old saying about long fingers being an indication of length elsewhere.

Buzz has all summer to win the bet, and he begins to actively pursue Adam. Will he win the bet? Or will he wind up getting more than he bargained for?

Review: Please note: spoilers included.

This is a most unusual book where the main character Adam has a very unusual deformity that I've never encountered while reading a m/m romance. There were hints that something was amiss, and boy, was it. The relationship between the two college students seemed very forced at times and Buzz had a catch phrase he used quite often that turned annoying after the first few times.

It seemed a bit unusual that many of the characters walked around the pool area stark ass naked even when the college students were there with other adult males. Maybe this is a common occurrence in California but nothing I've ever seen or heard about in the Midwest,

Adam is a church organist and there were times that the writing explaining the different types of organs was dry and uninteresting. I get that it was to get in depth and show his knowledge but it was way too much and dull to someone who has absolutely no interest in the history or workings of church organs.

The sex scenes were incredibly tame and bordered on disappointing. Even though Adam wasn't able to fuck it would have been fun to see some strap on play with some explicit scenes. The vague sex scenes were unsatisfying and a bit too repetitive.

This is certainly an unusual read but not what to go for if you are looking for some sizzling m/m action.

Working for a cranky, old hermit in an isolated house sounds like Ruby’s idea of heaven – but her boss isn't quite what she expects.

Tex is a fugitive from the rock and roll world – a tragedy abruptly halted his career. No one knows why he quit, no one knows where he is.

The two of them live in the same house, avoiding each other, until Tex screws up, endangering their lives and forcing them to move into close quarters. Suddenly, the idea of human contact seems more appealing, if only with each other. The sanctuary they have built is enough for Ruby -- the man she grows to love is Tex the hermit, not Tex the rock star -- but the outside world encroaches.

She thinks their fledgling love can’t shine brighter than the rock dream but can Ruby bare to let Tex go?

AUTHOR BIO:

Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. "Screw you," she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity - totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.

Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She's seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She's seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.

But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.

Breaking Away Series by Meli Raine book tour and contest

Breaking Away Series by Meli Raine
(Breaking Away #1-3)

Synopsis:

Finding Allie (Breaking Away #1)
Chase Halloway’s father is the president of Atlas, the drug dealing motorcycle gang that terrorizes most of our desert town.
My stepfather turns out to be a rival drug dealer, and I’m pretty sure he killed my mom two years ago.
I’m not supposed to fall in love with Chase. He’s not supposed to know I even exist.
But when he finds me, he can’t let go.
And when I find myself in his arms?
I hold tight.
I have to.
Because if I don’t, I might just die.
With or without him.

Chasing Allie (Breaking Away #2)
It turns out my stepfather has plans for me.
Plans that make dying look like a walk in the park.
He’s selling my virginity to a Mexican drug lord to get out of debt.
Chase just found out and is here to take me away to safety. To the ocean. To my dreams.
But while I’m gone, a murder takes place back home.
I receive a phone call. It’s the police.
I’m the prime suspect.
And if I go back, I may become the prime victim.
They say love conquers all, but can Chase save me from this?

Keeping Allie (Breaking Away #3)
Help.
I’m alone, tied up, bleeding and terrified.
I’m a prisoner at the Atlas motorcycle club compound. Someone kidnapped me, and it looks like it’s Chase.
No one knows I’m here. Then again, I’m no one, right? No mother, no stepfather, and my sister may have been kidnapped, too
They can make me disappear. Or worse. It turns out there are worse things than disappearing.
I thought Chase was my only hope.
Now he turns out to be my worst nightmare.
Something flickers in his eyes, though. A glimmer of love. If I can get him alone, maybe I can convince him to let me go. To let me live.
To let me go back to a time when I thought he was a good guy.
Only Chase has the power to make that happen.
Everything I am is in his hands right now.
And those hands are about to touch me.
