Fearless by Annie Jocoby
(Fearless #1)

Synopsis:

BOOK ONE OF A PLANNED TRILOGY
BOOK TWO, SECRETS AND LIES, IS AVAILABLE NOW!
*Warning* Strong language and sexual situations. Ends in MAJOR cliffhanger. Not for the faint of heart. :)
Beautiful heiress Dalilah Gallagher, a former child art prodigy, has lost her way. Harsh criticism in her formative years has left her floundering and without the artistic voice that once centered her life. Now, at the age of 20, she has spent the last nine years trying to reclaim what she lost.
Her struggles lead her to the nude-modeling world in New York City, where she hopes she will find her passion for art again. What she finds is surprising: Her artistic voice isn’t gone, merely misplaced.
Luke Roberts has a different problem. Raised by a solid, working-class fisherman in Maine, Luke is a gifted artist struggling to get a foothold in the busy New York City art scene. His gifts attract the attention of a wealthy benefactor, Blake Nottingham, who finds himself fascinated with Dalilah. Nottingham commissions Luke to provide him with a piece of art: A painting of Dalilah.
As the two young artists fall in love, Dalilah finds her artistic voice once more, so she’ll do anything to help Luke find the prominence he deserves. This leads to a dangerous game of deceit that puts Dalilah in Nottingham’s clutches when she tries to manipulate him into helping Luke.
Nottingham isn’t easily manipulated, though, and things go seriously awry for Dalilah. What happens when the manipulated becomes the manipulator?
This is a New Adult Contemporary Romance. Age groups are 18+. It has some sexually explicit scenes.

AUTHOR BIO:

Annie Jocoby is the author of 8 contemporary romance novels and 3 New Adult contemporary romance novels. Her motivation to begin writing these novels is that she was interested in writing about rich men who actually love and respect their women. Her heroes are alpha and damaged, yet also genuinely good guys.

Ryan, Nick, Luke and Asher are all complicated characters who have experienced plenty of darkness, yet always seek the light. They would all go to the ends of the earth to protect the women they love. And they’re all sexy, enigmatic, magnetic and great in bed.

All of Annie’s books have things in common: they all combine a touch of mystery and intrigue with drama, love, and lots of hot sex. Some of the books have action and even some criminal elements in them. Her current book, in fact, is her first book that would be classified as straight romantic suspense, although it also combines definite elements of the thriller genre! If you’re in the market for a book that is fast-paced, where the heroes are beautiful and wealthy, and the heroines are strong, vulnerable and flawed, then try these books out!

Author Interview:

Please start by telling us a little about yourself (education, jobs, significant other, children, pets, etc.) I’m a lawyer by trade. I have a boyfriend that I’ve been with for 8 years, no children, and two doggies who are the light of my life.
Tell us about your latest New Adult book and what inspired you to write it. It’s about Dalilah, a child prodigy, and Luke, a wildly talented and penniless artist. I was inspired to write it because Dalilah was the child of my first couple, Ryan and Iris, and I wanted to explore her story.
The New Adult genre is fairly new. What's your definition of it? How does it differ from Young Adult or just regular Adult books? It’s about people who are leaving the nest and trying to find where they fit into the world. It differs from YA, because YA is more high school age, and centers of kids living at home. Regular adult books is more when the people are established in their careers and what-not.
Do you belong to any critique groups and/or do you have other people read your work as you're writing it? Who's brutally honest and who's a cheerleader? Which do you prefer? I belonged to many critique circles when I first started out. I have a problem with “brutal honesty,” because, often, it’s just a matter of taste - they don’t like your work for the same reason some people don’t like olives or chocolate - it’s just for them. Yet they rip you apart, which isn’t necessarily right. But, if the person has something to say that isn’t just a matter of perception, then I’m all ears. I always want to improve.
What are your all-time favorite authors/books? My all-time favorite book is The Thornbirds.
Do you outline before you write or just dive head-first into a manuscript? Do you maintain a schedule for writing, or is it more haphazard? Just dive in head-first. I don’t maintain a writing schedule, either, although I try.
Where do you do your best writing? (Ex: desk in your office, public library, under a tree in the park, in front of a Real Housewives TV marathon, etc.) Do you like music or some other background noise, or do you need quiet? I like to sit on my bed with MSNBC on in the background. I’m kinda a political junkie, and I do need some type of background noise.
What are the best and worst parts of writing a book? Best part is getting to know the characters. Worst part is the insecure feeling I get when I feel like my work might not be well-received.
When you're driving and you have a sudden, brilliant idea for the new manuscript you're working on, what do you do? (Ex: pull over and fire up the laptop, keep driving while scribbling on a McDonald's bag, tell Siri, etc.) Tell Siri.
Imagine you have a whole day free for shopping. Where do you go? (Mall, unique boutiques, flea market, antique shops, bookstore, home improvement store, etc.) Getting a mani-pedi and heading to the mall.
What are the top 5 titles in your Netflix queue? (Be honest.) Or if you don't have a Netflix queue, which books are on your bedside table? (Again, be honest.) Mad Men (I’ve been binge-watching!), The Wolf of Wall Street (love Scorsese!), Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Queer as Folk.
Do you prefer to read ebooks or print? Ebooks.
Where is your favorite place in the world? San Francisco. Such a gorgeous city.
Do you have any advice for people who want to write a book? Yes - believe in yourself and keep going.
Please give us your website and any other links you'd like included in the interview. www.anniejocoby.com

Posers gonna pose

I am a man who had nothing, but found everything.

I’ll never go back to nothing ever again.

I vowed to protect her, and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do.

The pictures I stumbled upon haunt me still, the secret I shoulder is heavy.

They say secrets put distance between two people, but the truth is far more destructive than keeping it will ever be.

I won’t ever tell. She can’t ever know.

When I look in the mirror my reflection is of who I’m afraid I’ll become and not the man I am.

It makes me feel like a poser, no better than all the others pretending to be exactly who they aren’t.

How does a man keep it together when everything is unraveling right here in his hands?

I didn’t start any of this.

I never asked for it.

But it came knocking at my door.

When secrets and threats knock, I don’t hide.

I open the door.

Because the best way to take down a poser is to be one.

Review: Double Life by S. Usher Evans

Double Life by S. Usher Evans

Link to buy Double Life (Razia Book 1)

Story Rating: 3 out of 5

Review:

One would think that in the future of wondrous changes women would get a fair break. No, Razia could be a kick ass pilot but her boss won't send her out on the lucrative jobs because she's a female. He has no issue with sending the males. If she wants to eat and pay bills she will be Lyssa the planet explorer extraordinaire.

How long can one live two completely different lives before said lives hit a wrinkle? Though Lyssa has a Doctorate, it might not be enough to outsmart the police when a case of mistaken identity comes up and puts her charge in hot water along with the infamous pirate Razia.

I was a bit out of my element here. As far as the story went it was decent and readable. It took  a bit long to get to the point. As mush as I liked it, I did feel a bit bogged down in some places. Keep in mind this is a first book I've read from this author.

The author showed alot of Razia's personality and her struggle to do what she loves and doing what she needs to survive. All in all a decent book. Grab it. Read it. Enjoy it.

Author Bio:

Kacey is a pen name for two friends, Kelly and Claire. We started this journey together writing Rocking Esme in January 2014. We are avid readers and love all kinds of books. We were inspired to write a rock star book as that’s one of my (Kelly) favourite sorts of books to read. We joked about writing a book and then once we started it kind of just took off and we really love it. We both contributed to all of the Rocking books. Now Claire has taken a back seat due to work commitments and I wrote ‘Taking A Chance’ by myself and Claire was very much involved with the editing, reading and formatting. Now, I have written ‘Giving A Chance’ and had help from many of my friends with editing and beta reading.

It still makes me so happy to see reviews and sales going up. I love writing and hope to do it as more of a full time job in the future.

Review: Kiss Me By Moonlight by Michele Zurlo

Kiss Me By Moonlight by Michele Zurlo

Link to buy Kiss Me By Moonlight (The Kiss Me Series)

Story Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Review:

Four months after Lacey and Dylan got together in Michele Zurlo's Kiss Me Goodnight, the pair is back in the sequel Kiss Me by Moonlight. A lot has changed since Book One. Lacey and Dylan are officially a serious couple now, with Dylan practically living at Lacey's apartment, and Dylan's band is in the process of releasing its first album. Plenty has stayed the same, though, like Lacey's OCD and her compulsion to tell lies.

Lacey is the manager of Dylan's band, Kiss Me Goodnight, and she's working with some friends to sign more bands. It's a little unclear how Lacey knows so much about the music business and why bands would be falling over themselves to sign with her and listen to her advice about their songs. Perhaps it's because the band Kiss Me Goodnight is experiencing some success, and probably the other bands don't know about Lacey's tendency to tell cruel lies about the members of KMG. After multiple embarrassing lies that cast the band in a negative light, both Dylan and his band mates reach the end of their rope and cut Lacey loose. Lacey understands that it's all her fault, which doesn't make the break any less painful. On the contrary, that knowledge probably makes her feel worse.
Some readers appreciate an imperfect hero, and if you're one of those readers, then Lacey definitely has something to offer you. For myself, her lying and compulsive hand washing mostly feel icky.

Dyan is a hot, likeable rock star-type guy, which begs the question, "What does he see in Lacey?" To her credit, she wonders the same thing herself. Lacey doesn't treat Dylan very well, which is partly due to her conviction that she doesn't deserve him and wants to push him away, the way she has always pushed away people who love her. So Lacey takes Dylan for granted, and makes him keep most of his stuff in a storage locker rather than invite him to move in. Lacey is described as pretty and seems clever, but surely a guy who's cutting his first record can find a girl who's cute and smart and doesn't treat him like dirt.

Author Zurlo tells a good story, it's just unfortunate for this reader anyway, that Lacey is so unlikeable. I kept wanting to scream, "Stop lying and put down the bar of soap!" Yes, Lacey wants to get better, which is to her credit, but it's still hard to settle in and enjoy other parts of the book when you're waiting for her to do the next gross thing. For instance, the love scenes are well crafted and engaging – or at least they would be if I wasn't constantly cringing at the thought that Dylan is having sex with a person who says terrible things about him. It made both him and Lacey less attractive.
Overall, if you like that flawed hero, this book is for you. Lacey would doubtless be a sympathetic character for many readers. On the other hand, other readers might just want to wash their hands of her.

Story Rating: 5 out of 5

Blurb:

Sixteen-year-old Lucy Walker just wants a normal life, until she learns she is half-witch, half-demon. Now she's got other problems, like keeping her demon dad from killing her boyfriend, keeping the witches in her life from killing her demon dad, and keeping her non-supernatural friends safe from both sides. All the while she's desperately searching for the family raven that carries her magical legacy. She's walking a tightrope between good and evil, drawn to both, uncertain which she will ultimately choose.

Review:

Now, before starting this review it should be mentioned that this book falls more into the YA category than New Adult, but due to the subject matter it overlaps both genres. That being said, this is a fantastic read. This is the type of book you read and immediately fall in love with, and wonder why isn't everyone reading this? The story line is fresh and I loved the characters. There are witches, demons, bitchy high school girls, and even a gargoyle. I thought all the supernatural aspects of this story were very cool and loved that it took place in Chicago. There are times in the beginning where the story can be a little confusing, but the reader is figuring out what is happening right alongside the main character Lucy. And once the story really takes off it sucks you right in until the very end. I can totally see this as a movie. Seriously. I can't recommend this enough. I'm hoping there will be another book after this one.

The Heartbeat Thief by A.J. Krafton book tour and a contest

The Heartbeat Thief by A.J. Krafton

Synopsis:

Haunted by a crushing fear of death, a young Victorian woman discovers the secret of eternal youth—she must surrender her life to attain it, and steal heartbeats to keep it.
In 1860 Surrey, a young woman has only one occupation: to marry. Senza Fyne is beautiful, intelligent, and lacks neither wealth nor connections. Finding a husband shouldn’t be difficult, not when she has her entire life before her. But it’s not life that preoccupies her thoughts. It’s death—and that shadowy spectre haunts her every step.
So does Mr. Knell. Heart-thumpingly attractive, obviously eligible—he’d be her perfect match if only he wasn’t so macabre. All his talk about death, all that teasing about knowing how to avoid it…
When her mother arranges a courtship with another man, Senza is desperate for escape from a dull prescripted destiny. Impulsively, she takes Knell up on his offer. He casts a spell that frees her from the cruelty of time and the threat of death—but at a steep price. In order to maintain eternal youth, she must feed on the heartbeats of others.
It’s a little bit Jane Austen, a little bit Edgar Allen Poe, and a whole lot of stealing heartbeats in order to stay young and beautiful forever. From the posh London season to the back alleys of Whitechapel, across the Channel, across the Pond, across the seas of Time…
How far will Senza Fyne go to avoid Death?
